How to Make Gourmet Tuyo


This is a tutorial on how to make gourmet tuyo, an appetizing Filipino fish delicacy. Gourmet tuyo is made from dried herrings soaked in vegetable oil with spices like garlic, paprika and other chili powder.

To make gourmet tuyo; Fry the tuyo (half cook) and drain to remove excess oil. Remove the scales and bones of the tuyo, set aside. In a pan heat 1 cup olive oil (low heat).. Add tuyo simmer for about 2-3 min do not stir for this may break the fish. Add garlic, chilli flakes or chilli powder and carrots. Then add vinegar simmer for 1 min before adding the paprika and sugar, simmer for another 2-3 min stir it carefully to blend the flavor. Let it cool and store in bottle including oil.

Ingredients

20-25 pcs. Tuyo (dried herring)
1 cup Olive Oil
1/2 cup vinegar (measurement is up to your taste)
Design Carrots
1 bulb Garlic (chopped)
1 tsp White Sugar
1 tsp Paprika
1 tsp Chili Powder
Pickled hot pepper (optional)

Procedure
Fry the tuyo (half cook) and drain to remove excess oil.

Let it cool..

And store in a sanitized bottle including oil.

  • To sterilized a jar, in a deep pot bring a water to a boil and put the jar into it and boil for 1 to 2 minutes.
