Tuna Empanada Recipe Using Canned Tuna-food and recipes
No bake tuna Empanada using a canned century tuna. Tried this recipe many times and everytime I make this everybody was delighted. This is the best empanada recipe you will ever taste!
Yield: 16 pcs
Ingredients
For the Filling
1 Large Can Tuna Flakes in Oil (420 g)
1 tbsp Minced Garlic
1 Medium Red Onion
1 Potato (diced)
1 Small Carrots (diced)
1 Can Green Peas (155g)
1/4 cup Raisins
1 cup Grated Cheese
1/4 cup water
1 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Iodized Salt
1/2 tsp Grind Black Pepper
For the Wrapper
3 cups All Purpose Flour
1 stick Butter
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 tsp Iodized Salt
3/4 cup to 1 cup water
Cooking Oil for Frying
Procedure
To make the wrapper...
Mix the flour and salt in a bowl
Add the butter and mix using fork or your hand.
Add 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup water first knead until it form into a dough. Add more water if needed.
Place in a bowl, wrap with plaslic and refrigerate at least 20 minutes to rest.
While resting the dough prepare the filling
Saute onion and garlic.
Add carrots, potatoes,1/4 cup water, liquid fron canned tuna, black pepper and sugar. Cover and simmer until potatoes are cooked.
Add raisin, tuna flakes and grean peas. Season with salt.
Continue cooking without lid until almost dry.
Turn of the fire and leave to cool.
To wrap..
Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and the filling as well.
Roll out each dough using rolling pin and spoon over your cooled empanada filling. Top with grated cheese.
To seal the empanadas, fold the wrapper and seal the edges by pressing the dough with fork.
Deep fry until golden brown.
Serve.
